Our Story

We grew up in South Africa, surrounded by the lifestyle of outdoor living, sunny skies, rugby, braai and off course biltong. Its in our DNA. The process and attention to detail that is involved in taking a raw piece of meat to a beautifully cured stick of Biltong fills not only our stomachs, but our hearts.

The story of biltong all started back in 1835, with farmers from the Cape Colony in South Africa, who headed north in search of fresh pasturelands. The slow-moving settlers required the preservation of their beef, they cured strips of beef with salt and hung them to air dry in the sun. Biltong was born!

We cure small batch, made to order Biltong from our production kitchen in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Our biltong is hand made from premium quality Scottish beef. We use silverside, a prime cut from the rump, which has exactly the right texture, flavour and fat content for perfect biltong. We hand cut the strips which are marinated, rolled in our spice mix and then slowly air dried. Moisture is removed and the flavour is retained. We don’t cook, heat or dehydrate the meat, but rather use a process of air drying in a controlled environment. Monitoring the temperature to ensure optimum levels means that none of the nutrients is lost.

Our Biltong is never prepacked. It is always made fresh to order. This means it will take longer to get to you, but will absolutely be worth the wait!
