Packaging information

  • HOWZIT Kraft Pouches

The pouches/bags we use to store your HOWZIT Biltong are made from renewable materials, fully compostable (including Ziplock), actually , 100% fully biodegradable in 66 days.

  • HOWZIT TIn Packaging

We also use tin containers to package some of our HOWZIT Biltong. The metal packaging contains at least 70% recycled material. This is typical of most steel as it is cheaper to use recycled material than to use virgin metal, unlike plastic which is more expensive to recycle and less readily available. Why not use 100% recycled material? The simple answer is, there just isn't enough scrap metal available to use 100% recycled material. Whilst metal packaging has the highest recycling rates of any packaging material in Europe at about 79% (according to MPMA) , more material is required to replace what is wasted before a true circular economic model can be established. This is why it is so important to take action and reuse, recycle or refill your products to help increase recycling rates. Metal is seen as a key packaging material of the future, because unlike plastic, it never degrades and can be constantly recycled again and again, in fact 80% of all metal ever produced is still available for use today (according to APEAL).

  • HOWZIT Mailing Boxes

The Ecommerce Cardboard Boxes are environmentally friendly thanks to an assortment of qualities. Firstly, the card is sustainably sourced from renewable resources and can be widely and domestically recycled after use. The crash lock base design enables the postal box to be easily compressed into a flat configuration to fit comfortably and compactly into any home recycling bin. Cardboard has a fantastic recycling rate partnered with the ability for the material to be reused around 25 times without compromising the quality. This situates corrugated cardboard neatly into the circular economy that is essential in the creation of a green supply chain.
